Last night tale (body language)
Radio interview and other night tales …
– Oscar Wilde –
Last night I was sitting in the pub’s garden, having an easy chat with some of the guys I often see and have a talk with. There was subliminal tale going on behind their back at the big table where we all sat. While having an easy conversation with some of my people, I payed attention and observed what was going on behind their back…. a wonderful piece of body language.
Body language
A guy sat there with 3 girls, where his own girlfriend was the prettiest one. Lets call them Guy A and Girl A. They were both sitting on a long seat. The one that looks very much like a park seat. The other two girls sat on the chairs left and right from the long seat.
At some point, as Guy A went to the toilet, there suddenly appeared Guy B and he joined the girls at once. He went to sit onto the seat next to Girl A and she became clearly uncomfortable with it, especially after her boyfriend returned, as his place was now taken by Guy B.
Guy A took it all easy and left it confidently up to his girlfriend to do all the work. She then quickly stood up and took a chair opposite to Guy B. Her boyfriend (Guy A) then took a seat next to a Guy B. Within less then a minute Guy B left the scene and Girl A came back immediately to sit next to her boyfriend, Guy A thus. She also leaned her head softly on his shoulder.
Chairs dance tale
5 minutes later Guy B returned and took a seat next to Girl A again, taking advantage of remaining seat place, but then Guy A went to sit on the chair on opposite side (the same chair that was taken by his girlfriend just a minute ago) and within less then a minute Girl A followed. She went to sit on her boyfriend knie this time, as she leaned on his shoulder once again. Guy B was now sitting on the long seat completely alone.
All that time during this chairs dance, Guy B was trying to engage into a conversation with two other girls (without much success by the way), not exchanging a word with Guy A or even Girl A at all. All body language.
Nice. I was impressed!
The reason I was impressed, is that Guy A took it all easy, stayed confident and let his girlfriend do all the work. He was clearly aware that the best way to guard his woman, is to let her guard herself. His woman was obviously aware of that too, or she just followed her man ‘naturally’.
A wonderfull piece of body language performance!
Maybe I buy them both a drink the next time they cross my path.
The interview on radio Beverwijk
Yesterday early in the morning I had a phone call from radio Beverwijk. They asked if I’d like to give an interview later in the evening and I said it was Ok. And so I gave an interview. Phone interview to be more precise,
The interview is however all in Dutch. (Credits: www.radiobeverwijk.nl, “Lokaal totaal”, by: Gerben Sinjewel.)

The shells pic
In the meantime I thought it would be nice to place this shells pic here. Although I think other pics from this shoot with Lette, Gezinus and Diana were far more interesting (matter of taste I guess) and I prefer to work with makeup color, pencils and brushes, rather then shells and glue… yet this one took a lots of attention on Zoom website. So I think photographers themself must have their own reasons for giving it so many credits. Check it out here: http://gallery.zoom.nl/foto/896418/schelpenkunst.html.

Wonderful body language story, I love it. Great observation. Listened to the full interview as well. Alexander as is. Nice to hear a song of Jan-Paul as well. Ciao, Michael.

@Diana, Thnx a lot! Shells are cute and it’s always good to do something different.
@Michael, what these two (A) guys did was “state of art”! No theater play whatsoever… nothing like that.
I believe they were both just ‘naturals’.
Which makes me think; if it is true that words - as part of verbal communication, make only 7% of total communication:
“Aside from his many and various other fascinating works, Mehrabian established this classic statistic for the effectiveness of spoken communications:
* 7% of meaning is in the words that are spoken.
* 38% of meaning is paralinguistic (the way that the words are said).
* 55% of meaning is in facial expression.”
Source: http://www.businessballs.com/mehrabiancommunications.htm
… then “theoreticaly” this can mean that people who understand body-language can communicate more succesfully even with their cats, compared to a group of people who do not understand body-language and use the words + paralinguistics only, while talking to eachother.
In reailty this of course won’t be the case that easely, as on such a competition the body-language people would get in serious trouble while reading cats face expressions (limited and mainly covered with a lots of hair), not seeing movements of their hands (as they have none) or follow the movements of their eyes (as they won’t look the opponent all the time); just to name a few important aspects…. but you’ve got the idea. :))
