Personal space
It was Saturday night, about 1.15 after midnight when we returned from Heemskerk where we had a fun with a couple of friends of mine who invited us over there, where they had some cool live music. So we now entered our last bar, just before the door got closed for the rest of the outside world.
The place was very crowdy, with plenty of unknown faces around, as it’s usually the case on fridays and saturdays.
In a way, everyones space was limited. Including my space. ;-)
After I got us some drinks, Big Girl and I went aside, close to a window, so we wouldn’t stand in the way to a people who were on a dance floor and also to be able to talk.
We were having some easy chat and a lots of laugh, but that wouldn’t last for very long.
In the middle of the bar there were 3 guys dancing. They were not that old, perhaps each of them in between 22-30 years old at most. That I did notice when we walked in.
What surprised me, was that one of these 3 guys suddenly jumped out of their circle and grabbed Big Girl around her neck and pulled himself over against her body. He did his jump from behind her back, so she didn’t see him coming. He was extremely fast. He did it in less then 2 seconds… so I reacted at once.
Action versus reaction
Me: “HEEEYY!!” (I kicked him on his shoulder with a palm of my hand)
Him: (he disengaged Big Girl, as he’s got a step back from my punch.. I got his attention at once) “WHHAAT!?”
Me: “WHAT THE FbeeepCK DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING?!
Him (surprised): “Blah, blah, blah!”
Me: “I want you to go back to your friends!”
Him: “WHAT? Blah, blah…”
Me: “YOU HEARD ME, GO AWAY, NOW!” (with my stretched forefinger I showed him the way towards his friends)
Him: “It’s OK man!” (he gave me his hand).
I accepted his guesture, so we shaked our hands and he went back into his group.
At the end - his final action was reasonable, so that’s where I left it.
Personal space versus intimate space
Alright, let’s roll this back now, in a slow motion and see what just happened:
The completely unknown guy to us.
Feels good (and perhaps strong) surrounded by his friends.
Jumps out of his crowd.
He grabs Big Girl from her back (I guess he surprised us both!)
Pulls himself over against her body.
He bows his head forward, either in an attempt to talk to her or to kiss her (we’ll never find that out I guess, as at that very moment he earned himself a shoulder punch already.)
Then he’s looked at me surprised when I dissaproved his way of communication with a girl who came with me?!
Hmmm… young and full of hormons, with a lots more to learn I would say.
What was he expecting, that I would be impressed by presence of his friends and would do nothing?
What was he thinking my (or even her’s) reaction would be?
Body language
What he didn’t realise, is that in the terms of psychology and the body language, he intruded personal space of two people he didn’t even know, let alone he ever spoke to any of us before. In real life and in big cities, people sometimes get killed in situations like these. Especially after midnight when people have a fair dosis of alcohol in their blood and when hormons go nuts.
Intimate space
To me, every inch in a diameter of up to two feet around me is my intimate space. If unwanted guests inpolitely invite themselves in, I call it INTRUSION. Especially when I don’t see them coming. So, my natural response is my reflex. And this reflex can go in two directions: flight or fight.
When I was a kid, it was often flight, and I had to pay for it.
The price was high.
… and yet, I haven’t become a killer. I become an artist instead.
Normaly, if Big Girl saw this guy coming, I would LET HER shake him off (if she wanted to), or would let her even give him some attention, again, IF SHE - or even I - wanted to. ;-)
But he didn’t leave us too much choice, did he?!
Big Girl then asked me if I was afraid and I said I was not. I told her then that the guy however was a total surprise to me, as much as he was to her - and that it was my reflex action she just saw. She then said that in the situations like these, she sometimes gets scared.. and I said that it’s perfectly normal, as when I think about it deeply, it scares me sometimes too, but not at the moment itself, mostly the next day when I have a plenty of time to think, as my mind evaluates then all kind of possible nasty scenario’s.
Although, I prefer not to think about it at all.
Then I looked around us and noticed that Big Girl was the only female at our side of the bar. Alls strangers around us, more or less. All males… Damn! I should’ve notice that at once.
I took her hand and said: “lets go to the other side of the bar.” And so we did.
We came there and joined the crowd where the bar owner with his wife stood and a few locals I knew. They appearently all had a fun - and so did we, from that moment on.

In a meantime people are finding my site with the search items like:
“how to see steal someones contact list on msn”, “perfect for stealing myspace passwords”.. and that kinda crap. *Sigh*.
What’s on men mind!? …I must be doing something wrong then.

The light on a horizon is always a photoshoot!
Making of smoky eyes
A couple of days ago Lette just finished another gallery ready to use.
It was from our photoshoot in Ijmuiden, a while ago …
And these are some of the photoshoot pics we’ve got.

I had no idea she made so many of them. I’ve literrary got a whole serie of ‘making of’ pics. For some backstage photo’s I was aware of her making them, but for the most I was not.
Quite funny to think back on that day.
There was no a make-up room, nor mirror, so I did it all in a living room, with constantly changing (outside) light. It was the beginning of the summer, with very changing lights and it was a bit clowdy day…

Hey, nice to make a story with these pics. I made them for Diana (and you) to see, but it is an interesting proces to show.
And anytime I look at the wave-pictures I feel the fun again.

Hey Alexander,
Groetjes, Diana

More pics in front of your article, more story about the making-up setting, work jokes etc., can be an oppertunity to wave you into your picture.
