In 2.5x versions of Wordpress there is a CMS problem with “Add media” (add an image, add video, add audio and add media) upload button. With older Internet Explorer browsers, like IExplorer 6 with FlashPlayer 9x, the Wordpress Add media, upload flash button works just fine. However, in IExplorer 7 and FlashPlayer 10, the upload button won’t trigger any action at all. Also not in Firefox browser if FlashPlayer plugin is updated… which is very annoying. To some people it might be a huge problem as they might not be able to upload pictures or any other media files at all, no matter what browser we’re talking about. The problem is not in the browser or else where.. but rather in Adobe FlashPlayer itself!

I searched the web for a (working) solution, but couldn’t find any, not even on Wordpress official website. So I asked my programmer dude Jeroen to fix this piece of flash crap - and so he did! Now the upload button is plain HTML, which works in all browsers and flash plugin versions are from now on (as far as it Add Media upload button concernes) irrelevant.

The fix

Download this zip file, unpack it and replace entire “swfupload” map in /wp-includes/js/
Please also note that ‘rewriting’ the old swfupload map on the server won’t always work, so delete this map on the webserver first - and then upload the new one.

Please mind the following: ALWAYS BACKUP your old map first!

In order to make this (patch / install) work, make sure you empty your webbrowser cache after you’re done. Restart your webbrowser again, login onto your wordpress admin account and you’re in business!

This fix definitely works on Wordpress version 2.5.1, not sure if it might also work on older versions as well. The fix is tested with Internet Explorer 6 and 7, and with Firefox 3.09 browsers.

I am looking for a super user friendly, click and drag method of that involves text and images and requires options on my desktop. Can you help me?

  4. marnie says:

I meant to say blog that I can manipulate photos onto both from desktop files without going into any other programs. I have a google page. marnie eyford. What is photo bucket?

  5. Alexander says:

@marnie, I’m afraid I can’t help u. Take a look at SourceForge, perhaps u can find there a script you’re looking for, or otherwise there might be some nice (alternative) WP plug in at Wordpress plug in’s directory..

I doubt u’ll find anywhere a desktop (exe) application that manipulates your blog pictures and texts the way u want.

    Either way, success!
