paranoid tata indicom ashtray thumbThis morning Alex and I woke up by the sound of his mobile. The girl on the phone started talking Hindi, but Alex asked he if she would be that kind to talk English - and she did. She told him she was from Tata Indicom. Alex (waiting now the 3d day for Tata Indicom’s technician already) didn’t let the girl talk too much but took a word himself. He asked her if they were planning to send any technician at all? She said they were but wanted him to confirm his address once more (third time now!)

She also asked him what’s his relation to the modem owner - and Alex said: “a friend”.

She eventually said their technician would come before 12 ‘o clock am and she also said it would be this time for sure.

Tata’s technician of course didn’t show up this time either, so Alex was sweating in Internet Cafe today afternoon once again.

Paranoid

But what’s all that fuss about having to confirm the address 3 times and checking on his relation with Tata Indicom’s wireless USB modem owner? It’s just a piece of plastic for gods sake! And it’s junk too!

They checked that 3 days ago already when Alex paid the bill…

I think a whole India drives on paranoia and fear. Also Tata Indicom is very paranoid so far I could see.
Do they now suspect Alex being a potential terrorist?

I think they are now checking on him and if his modem ever gets fixed at all, they’ll most probably be tapping his Internet traffic and spy on him too. That’s how paranoid the world has become. Also a country like India.

So, as I already sent the greeting card to Dutch Minister Klink and also to Dutch Prime Minister.. perhaps I should send a card to Indian Ministers too?

Well, let’s do just that.

Greeting card to Indian Ministers

Dear (future) Ministers of India,

As I am a solid piece of metal, I’m very aware of your countries security measures. I get screened everywhere and I can’t move freely - even I’m just an innocent ashtray, designed to collect the ashes.

I’m also aware that you recently had your parliamentary elections and that couple of days ago when it was announced that good (for the economy) government is about to be formed, the Indian stock market jumped up by nearly 1500 points (which is very impressive!)… so I think it’s promising and I’d therefore like to tell you the following:

Please do more effort to talk to Pakistani people and do more effort for peace in general. India is supposed to be a spiritual country, not a prison, run by paranoia and fear.

You might also consider spending a little bit less money on the weapons and your space program (does India really needs to be the space superpower along with Russia, China and US?) and spend some more money on India’s infrastructure and homeless.

homeless in delhi
Homeless in Delhi.

It doesn’t really promote the tourism seeing the poor sleeping on pretty much every street corner of Delhi and most probably other large Indian cities.

I think India deserves more.

Thank you & best wishes,
Ashtray
