Positive thinking

scary prostheticIn theory, when we think positive, have positive thoughts and attitude, we attract positive things, events and people.

Hanging around successful people, should (again, in theory) help us become successful too.

That’s one of the laws of attraction, that can lead to a success.

The key is thus in our attitude, our mind - and it’s work: thinking. Or to be even more precise: positive thinking.

Right now I am in the mountains, just a few miles away from Wellington city. I’m on a visit at New Zealand’s no. 1 in bodypainting and facepainting artists. People who won many championships.. among other World Championship Bodypainting - Special Effect this year at worlds biggest bodypainting championship in Austria. The price was won by Nicole’s daughter Yolanda.

Yolanda’s winning work, special effect. (www.bodyfx.co.nz) … poetry indeed!

So, here I am, staying in a wooden atelier house, across Nicole’s family house, in the middle of the forest and with loads of fresh air. No many people, nor cars traffic around.. but pure nature and the only sounds I hear are produced mainly by sheep’s, donkeys, dogs, birds… and occasionally the wind and the raindrops.

That’s good. My thoughts are not getting destructed in any possible way.

The nights are mostly fresh, often cold and with temperatures just around zero or slightly above. That part is not quite good. Yet, the night sky is clear. Haven’t see the stars that clearly from my childhood… and some stars (outer southern sky hemisphere) I’ve never even seen before. Such a surprise.

In a day time I’m drinking a lots of coffee, chopping the woods and painting prosthetics. Also recently started using the airbrush. It’s quite different work then making Scandinavian women pretty - or doing the make-up for Race queen and creating Geisha or Indian bride, let alone Javanese bride. :)

Might use some of this newly gained knowledge for the next Halloween party.

There are a lot’s of scars and cut wounds effects involved. It’s entirely different method and procedure then when using wax for instance.

The prosthetics are used for special effects and are made by Nicole self. Some are - as good (if not better!) - and similar to those that I often saw in Hollywood SF (StarTrek series for instance) and horror movies. And some of these prosthetics products are exported to homeland Netherlands - and can be found at “Backstage” make-up shop in Amsterdam.

Nicole has two ateliers here, where she makes sculptures, in order to make malls… and by using these malls she makes thus prosthetics. From time to time some of her students help her with all this.

Nice!

Visualizing and positive thinking

I observe here a lot and bug Nicole often with many “how to” questions. I’m absorbing the knowledge, like a sponge. I’m even spying on her bookcase. Some of the books I found in the bookcase (the room I’m sleeping in) are self-help books, like: “You can Have what you Want”, written by psychologist Julia Hastings. The stuff covered in the book (visualizing and positive thinking), ain’t strange to me. Read it often before, which makes me think: it won’t hurt to read one more.

Having said that, it amazes me over and over again - to see how successful people I meet, are often reading the same stuff and/or having the same life philosophy. Back in Sydney, while often talking, mailing and messaging with Victoria, I discovered that she too has “positive attitude” and positive thoughts life philosophy.. which naturally - works fine for her… Something to think about.

In the evenings I’m doing more painting and also helping Nicole with their site, BodyFX.

However, a few days ago things went wrong. I spread their link on several social networks sites, which resulted in (more or less) about half thousand visitors on their site, in two days time. Some of the links linked straight to the (uncompressed) “Special Effects picture” that her daughter Yolanda’s won the price with. So, as I wasn’t aware of their bandwidth limits, due to a sudden large traffic (at the end of the month), their site went offline. The website bandwidth was exceeded, their host said.

Woooooooops.

Not very helpful thus. I think I should better concentrate on chopping the woods for the time being - or even go deep into the forest and hunt on some wild animals in stead. ;-)

Nevertheless, I advised Nicole to call their host and ask more bandwidth for their websites (2GB for 2 sites isn’t really according to European nor New Zealand’s standards these days, especially not for business websites), which she fortunately did. The new 20 GB bandwidth limit a month - that she’s got now, should stand even bigger jokes then mine.

That’s good too.

Visualizing

So, tonight after everyone went to sleep, I smoked outside a few cigarettes and enjoyed once more the night (sky) view… I watched the stars for a while and in my thoughts I was visualizing a bit once again. But now I’m very careful with “what I want”. The last time that I was seriously thinking big and I visualized what I wanted, there was no more return possibility. No more way back. Before I knew, I found myself traveling around the world. :)

This time, particularly tonight, I’m visualizing some minor stuff, some safe stuff. Like drinking some more of Nicole’s husband - home made - beer. God, it tastes delicious!
I’m also asking my inner self and the universe - to give me some nice dreams tonight. That’s all I want right now. No other, complicated visualizations. nor wishes this time…

It should be OK for now.

Positive thinking: dear Alexander, I can recommand “life as an artwork” from Joep Dohmen, inspired by a question of Foucault.
I will borrow you the book when you’re returned from your trip….

  2. Alexander says:

Vincent, I,ll check that book too haha.
Put it at some safe place until I,m back. :)

  3. Josten says:

As i go on and on in my journey through life i’m realizing more and and more that successful people improve themselves continously.

  4. Ryan Koh says:

Wow, positive thinking in the mountains! I agree with you that positive people think alike. I’ve been reading so many books, from management to self-help. Most of them drive home the same idea, that is to start thinking positive and everything is a possibility.

  5. Alexander says:

    @Josten & @Ryan Koh, yes.. that’s the idea.
