On 9/11 my hotel stuff warned me kindly not to go out that night. I didn’t understand what the lady was talking about at once and asked some guy in hotel to translate, but the guy was too drunk and made it only worse for me to understand. So far I understood, what she was saying (in Spanish), was most probably: “stay in hotel tonight, it can be dangerous outside.. it’s complicated!”

A few days earlier I saw an exposition of New York 9/11 disaster, in a front of Chilean government building, but American 9/11 doesn’t concern me (as they created all that crap them self!). Later I understood it wasn’t American 9/11 my landlady was referring to, but Chilean one. One that I knew nothing about.

My Chilean friends didn’t appear in the pub that night either.
Who could blame them.. conspiracy everywhere!

I was stubborn and went out alone anyway.

Soon I noticed that Santiago turned into a ghost city that night. The only sign of life was to be found in Pio Nono street. I ended up once again in Aliens bar, which was this time half empty too.

1000cc vs. Aliens

A while later, a poor old man walked into Aliens bar. He had an empty glass in his hand and for the rest didn’t order anything. Probably ’cause he had no money - or he was drunk. Well… he was most definitely drunk. He went to sit in the corner.

After a while, a young girl from next table took her 1000cc Escudo bottle and poured him a drink. Instantly, the old man stood up and started to dance.

The music went like this.

Shakira, Ojos Asi video ….

The girl next table and me only smiled to each other.
A couple of minutes later, the guys from the next table were taking pictures with the old man.

— That’s (also) Chile! —

Certainly the side of Chile I like the most.
It’s about having fun and sharing what you have.
Escudo es mas cerveza, damn it!

… thanks Raul S. for unprotected wireless from………………… Aliens that night.
Cheers buddy!

Unfortunately, the next day, the newspapers reported that due to a violence and riots from previous (9-11) night, 3 people died and a police agent got injured in Santiago.

Such a shame.
It didn’t have to be that way.
They could’ve better shared some drinks with me.

The only bad thing that happened to me that night, is that the cab driver wanted to screw me for about 4000 Pesos. Even I showed him on the city map where I was going to, once I entered his car.. he ignored the map and took advantage of the fact that (same as Sydney) also Santiago has some double streets names. Or he was hoping that I was at least stupid.

But I already knew that streets joke, as Photographer Rodrigo Riviera pointed it to me a couple of days earlier.. So, the cab driver took me to a wrong direction, claiming that “he knew the place where I was supposed to be”. After a couple of times warning him that “he goes the wrong direction” and showing my map again and again, he finally turned back (after 15 minutes driving) and brought me back to my hotel. He then pointed to his meter - which showed 6000 Pesos. And I said “Screw the meter, I’ll give you 2000!” He argued further: “I want at least 3000!” I finally said: “2000 or nothing, amigo!” He at the end accepted my offer and unwillingly shook my hand.

Meanwhile, some positive things are happening too. The same day or the day before, I got an e-mail from Pearl that said the following:

Hi guys,

The project we did the shoot for was a huge success! Everyone loved it.
And Victoria, we even got comments that our "virtual race queen” really
adorable! =)

Here’s our photo media kit…thought you might be interested to see the
outcome.
